While everybody talks about porting zope to google app engine here might be an even better alternative. Open source and with a grid-aware object database!
10gen's software stack is roughly comparable to Google App Engine "in that it provides a new stack of tools (database, grid management, application server) that are purpose-built to run in a cloud environment,"

- Source code availability
To me this looks like a much better match then the proprietary Google App Engine.
